Check your video card using Device Manager Step 1 Click 'Start,' right click 'My Computer' or 'Computer,' select 'Manage,' wait for a system management window to open and then select 'Device Manager' in the list on the left side of the window. For Windows Vista and 7, type 'device manager' into the search field and press 'Enter.' Nvidia and AMD are the two major GPU manufacturers but there are many add-in-board partners (AIB) or third-party manufacturers that make graphics cards using their GPUs. Some of the reputable and top graphics card brands are Asus, EVGA, Gigabyte, MSI, etc. Graphics cards from well-known brands do cost a bit more than the less popular brands like Galax, Zotac, etc. Which are generally Chinese.
Microsoft Windows is a ubiquitous platform for enterprise, business, and personal computing systems. However, industry AI tools, models, frameworks, and libraries are predominantly available on Linux OS. Now all users of AI - whether they are experienced professionals, or students and beginners just getting started - can benefit from innovative GPU-accelerated infrastructure, software, and container support on Windows.
The NVIDIA CUDA on WSL Public Preview brings NVIDIA CUDA and advanced AI together with the ubiquitous Microsoft Windows platform to deliver advanced machine learning capabilities across numerous industry segments and application domains.
Interested parties will need to join the appropriate user programs, and will download specific components from both NVIDIA and Microsoft to set-up the complete WSL environment.
NVIDIA drivers for WSL with CUDA and DirectML support are available as preview for Microsoft Windows Insider Program members who have registered for the NVIDIA Developer Program.
Enable Developers
GPU support is the number one requested feature from worldwide WSL users - including data scientists, ML engineers, and even novice developers.

If you ever encounter the graphics card not detected on Device Manager problem, you’re certainly not alone. But don’t worry, it can be easily fixed…
Fixes for Nvidia Graphics Cards Not Detected
All the fixes below work in Windows 10,8.1 and 7. You may not have to try them all; just work your way down the list until the graphics card not showing up in Device Manager issue goes away.
Fix 1: Show hidden devices
If you recently got a new graphics card for your computer, then there’s a good chance it shows up as hidden. So we might have to un-hide it. Here’s a quick run-down:
- On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key and R at the same time, then type devmgmt.msc into the box and press Enter.
- ClickViewand then clickShow hidden devices.
- ClickAction>Scan for hardware changes.
- Check if your Nvidia graphics driver shows up under Display adapters (aka.Graphics card, Video card, GPU card). If yes, then great. But if it prove unfruitful, don’t worry – here’re a few more fixes to try.
Fix 2: Update your graphics driver
This graphics card not detected problem may occur if you are using the wrong graphics driver or it’s out of date. So you should update your graphics driver to see if it fixes your problem. If you don’t have the time, patience or skills to update the driver manually, you can do it automatically with Driver Easy.
Nvidia Graphics Card Update
Driver Easy will automatically recognize your system and find the correct drivers for it. You don’t need to know exactly what system your computer is running, you don’t need to be troubled by the wrong driver you would be downloading, and you don’t need to worry about making a mistake when installing. Driver Easy handles it all.
You can update your drivers automatically with either the Free or the Pro version of Driver Easy. But with the Pro version it takes just 2 clicks (and you get full support and a 30-day money back guarantee):
1) Download and install Driver Easy.
2) Run Driver Easy and click the Scan Now button. Driver Easy will then scan your computer and detect any problem drivers.
3) Click Update All to automatically download and install the correct version of ALL the drivers that are missing or out of date on your system (this requires the Pro version – you’ll be prompted to upgrade when you click Update All).
4) Restart your computer, then check if the graphics card not detected problem is resolved. If yes, then congrats! But if the issue remains, please move on to Fix 3, below.
Fix 3: Update your BIOS
BIOS(Basic Input/Output System) performs the hardware initialization and jumpstarts the processes during the booting process of your computer. So we can try updating ourBIOSto see if it solves thisgraphics card not showing up in Device Manager in Windows 10/8/7issue.
- On your keyboard, pressthe Windows logo keyandRat the same time, then copy & pastemsinfo32 into the box and press Enter.
- In the information in BIOS Version/Date and go to the manufacturer’s official website.
- Check out the Support (or Download) section and search for the latest BIOS update.
- Download the file and install it properly.
- Restart your computer and check if the problem gets fixed.
